Washington, D.C.- In Defense of Christians is partnering with the Hellenic American Leadership Council and the Armenian National Committee of America in calling for a boycott of Turkish products and services in light of the recent developments concerning the conversion of the Hagia Sophia into a mosque.
In solidarity with persecuted Christians of the Middle East, the boycott calls on consumers to boycott Turkish goods.
This petition is in direct response to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s decision to convert the Hagia Sophia into a mosque. The Hagia Sophia is a landmark of Christian heritage in Turkey and Erdogan’s plans further his attempt to whitewash history.
The conversion of this ancient Christian landmark and UNESCO World Heritage Site is not only an affront to Eastern Christians, but to all Christians and people of good will.
“Christians in the Middle East have faced genocide, destruction of their homelands, and persecution from Turkey. Enough is enough,” said IDC President Toufic Baaklini.
IDC and partner organizations are particularly concerned about this matter since Erdogan’s intention is to officially convert the Hagia Sophia into a mosque on July 24th, 2020.
