Washington, DC – On Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM (EDT), In Defense of Christians, in cooperation with the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, will host a congressional briefing focusing on the ongoing atrocities against Christians in Nigeria at the hands of Jihadists and other militant groups, and the Nigerian government’s failure to address the conflict.
This congressional briefing is an important opportunity to underscore the urgency of the issue, and add momentum behind House Resolution 82, urging the State Department to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and for the White House to appoint a Special Envoy for Nigeria and the Lake Chad region.
The congressional briefing will feature remarks from some of the world’s foremost experts on Nigeria, international religious freedom, genocide, and Christian persecution. Join us for a deep-dive examination of the ongoing tragedy in Nigeria, and measures to mitigate and end the suffering.
Panelists will include:
- Kola Alapinni: Human Rights Attorney
- Professor Robert Destro: Professor of Law, Catholic University of America (Former Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy and Human Rights)
- Nadine Maenza: President, International Religious Freedom Roundtable (Former USCIRF Chair)
- Dr. Gregory Stanton: Founder and President, Genocide Watch
The event will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM (EDT), in the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2255, and live streamed on Facebook LIVE and X.
