Washington, D.C.- IDC has confirmed from reliable sources on the ground in Northeast Syria that Turkey has commenced bombing which has targeted towns with large Christian populations, Raas el Ayen and Al Darbasiyah, also a Christian neighborhood of Qamishli. In Qamishli a Syriac Christian man and woman have died, reported to be a man and his wife. In Raas el Ayen, a Syriac Christian civilian was killed as well as one other civilian, and two more injured. In Al Darbasiyah four Syriac Christians have been wounded, and small arms fighting was reported. In the towns of Kobane and Al Darbasiyah four more civilians have been killed, two in each town.

On Monday President Trump warned Turkish President Erdogan that he would, “destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey” if they did anything he considered off limits. This morning he added, “Turkey has committed to protecting civilians, protecting religious minorities, including Christians, and ensuring no humanitarian crisis takes place—and we will hold them to this commitment”. President Trump now has every right to act on his warning to President Erdogan, and the Turkish President has completely disregarded his warnings and directly targeted Christian villages. IDC calls on President Trump to take swift action.

IDC President Toufic Baaklini said last night, ”If the United States and the International Community do not act to stop Turkey’s indiscriminate assault, in some cases with Islamist militias, Turkey will complete the work that ISIS tried to do, in eradicating Christians from this region. It was only by the sacrifice of the U.S. military and their Kurdish and Christian partners that ISIS was stopped.”
