WASHINGTON, D.C. – In Defense of Christians (IDC), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for Christians and religious minorities in the Middle East, applauds President Donald J. Trump for signing into law H.R.390 – Iraq and Syria Genocide Emergency Relief and Accountability Act of 2018, introduced by IDC Cedars of God Award Recipients Chris Smith and Anna Eshoo. IDC would also like to offer gratitude to Vice President Mike Pence and USAID Administrator Mark Green for elevating this issue as a priority.
“Today we honor the memory of all those killed by ISIS in Syria and Iraq and we renew our sacred commitment to religious freedom,” said President Trump.
HR390 will do imperative work in restoring the lives of refugees and internally displaced persons, especially religious and ethnic minorities, who fled the Nineveh Plains, Sinjar and other parts of the Nineveh Province. IDC has advocated for the passage of HR390 since it was first introduced in Congress.
“We applaud the president for signing this bill into law, which will funnel desperately needed aid to Christians, Yazidis and other minorities who survived ISIS’s campaign of violence. We are grateful that our efforts have helped push HR390 through Congress and the White House. This would not have been possible without the faith leaders, Congressional champions and citizen advocates around the country we have the blessing of working with every day.“ stated IDC President Toufic Baaklini.
