Washington, DC, December 20— IDC strongly calls on Senator Corker to introduce the Iraq and Syria Genocide Relief and Accountability Act of 2017 to the Senate in order to hold a vote. In a unanimous vote, the House of Representatives passed this bill with large bipartisan effort in June of 2017. Despite this, the bill spent months waiting for a markup in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and has languished on the Senate calendar for over two months after passing out of committee.

The Iraq and Syria Genocide Emergency Relief and Accountability Act is a bill which would provide immediate relief to minority religious groups in Iraq and Syria, particularly Christians and Yazidis impacted by the genocide committed by ISIS.

It is imperative to help survivors of genocide in Iraq and Syria right away. Every day counts in the battle to prevent these communities from going extinct. Senator Corker has the ability to advance their quest for justice and help them rebuild their devastated communities by immediately advancing this essential bill.
